is this a manufacturer defect? I never let my car sit for more than 2 days at a time, psi was at 29 or so.

Kinja'd!!!

is this a major issue or can I baby it a few days while new tires arrive?

I didn't notice it until earlier today.

For safety, don't take the risk - but it's almost certainly fine. And unlikely to be a defect, looks more like road damage to me.

looks like defect to me, and depending on how the rest of the tire is holding up, it could hold for a bit.

That's a defect... DO NOT drive on it

Slap on your spare

What can I do? Call the company or insurance?

Oh, and it's not a new tire, I've had then since I bought the car 2 years ago.

look at how it cracks around the letters, though.

Warranty is long gone likely..... Oh well, you're most likely SOL... Go buy a new one

Ask one of the engineers round here, but I think that's the stress riser where it'll crack if over-stressed. Doesn't make it a defect, though.

Thats a defect. Road damage wouldn't be the full length of the letters.

Looks like a defect to me, those are some sizable splits. What's the date code on those? Rubber starts to dry and crack after about 5 years, and many tires sit in warehouses for years, they look new but the rubber is aged nonetheless.

Summer tire? How cold has it been recently?

Check the date codes on the tire. It could be an age issue. Maybe the PO whacked something, I would think the rim would be damaged too if it was impact damage.

no idea, already ordered new ones, as I had a few nails in my rear tires.

Well, it's not a temperature crack, so that's OK. But still, you likely need to get new tires.

I've got a set of BFGoodrich R1 stored in the house because of the cold weather. Thank God I have my own house, so I can do that.

I usually park my car in the garage, or next to a big truck at work that never moves (ample shade). It has honestly rained maybe 3 times this year, so I always get summer tires. That said I have a set of 4 on their way already!

Pro tip: if it looks like a tire that has dry rotted since 92, stop right there.

I didn't know Yokohama made Hankooks. Thanks! That's good to know.

I dump tires after 5 years. I don't care how much tread they have.
